Echo Park Life

L O S   A N G E L E S

Last Friday, my family came for a visit to see my new place. I was really excited to show them the newly renovated lake. My aunt Violet said that my tiny apartment reminded her of Europe.
I'll have to ask my landlord, but I believe the building is from the late 30s, so it definitely has that old world charm (with some quirks here and there). My place is coming together very slowly. I'm currently in that nesting process.

I think the photos from my last entry represent the day so clearly. My cousin and I are riding the peace train. I just love that photo so much. Here are some more...

I love this woman. She is a good human being.

The lotus flowers are epic. I was disappointed to see trash floating around near the wetlands. Come on people! The lake has only been open for two weeks! Sigh...

Sweet babies, chilling out in the grass & getting some sweet vitamin D.

Dad is also getting some vitamin D action. Looking suave, as usual.

My cousin likes to make me things. Her art is displayed on my fridge and gives me the greatest joy. Here is something she created a while back.

Waiting for the Fall

This LA summer hasn't been that bad.  I mean, it's been really, ridiculously hot, but that is good for beach days (I need one of those), and maybe evening picnics (in the shade), and the summer is great for sipping on cold beverages while hanging out on your porch (if you have a porch), or sitting on your front steps, or the grass, or in your air conditioned vehicle....

I love the summer and need to take more advantage of it while I house sit this week for my friend's Alex and Britt.  I'll be documenting my stay and cannot wait to see what I come up with.  Highland Park and Montecito Heights are rich with history, and I love to explore that area.  I'll be snapping photos during that exploration and taking in the scenery.  More on that very soon!

While we bask in the sunlight, here is something to look forward to in the Fall/Winter.  I am dying over these J.Crew for Fall ensembles.  So chic and classic with a colorful twist.

W A N T

I absolutely love this bright coral dress and that drop waist.  This one is on my wish list!  All you need is some pink lipstick and heels! So elegant.

I love how outfits are put together for this company.  They come up with great combinations that I would never even think of.  That skirt and sweater together is just gorgeous, with those red shoes and everything.....SO RAD!  A stand out for the next New Years Eve bash!
Cable knit and sequence? Sign me up!

This whole outfit is a winner.  Something Bianca Jagger would have worn at Studio 54.  She puts my 30th birthday party to shame, btw.

K O K E D A M A r a m a !

G E T   C R A F T Y

Photo by Lili Cuzor aka Tigers to Lilies (a new favorite)

This is my hanging plant, or Kokedama in Japanese!  I had the pleasure of attending a kokedama making workshop with my lovely friends, Stefani and Angie.  It was at a place called Shelter Half, for their Midsummer Nights Crafts (the last workshop is T H I S Thursday, people!) Go get your craft on!

Lili Cuzor was our kokedama extraordinaire and an excellent instructor.  She also has this rad blog called, Tigers to Lilies (! ! !)   L O O K

She was the sweetest.  In fact, everyone I met that night were absolute dolls.  So welcoming as Stefani and I entered the room (we were half an hour late due to terrifying LA traffic, which led us through the mean streets of downtown during art walk...ART WALK....then over the hump towards the west side.....UGHHHHH, the pain and pleasure of LA life), we were put to ease immediately with the warm greetings and got our hands dirty right away while listening to the epic sounds of Peter Gabriel and the sweet melodies of Francoise Hardy (I need to add all her records to my collection).  So glad we made it to this class.  It was inspiring to create something new and make new friends.  Pure joy.

More photos below that Lili snapped throughout the night. Enjoy, and go make something!

Everyone looks so summery.  IN LOVE!

My creation!  He hangs in my mother's office, by her window!  Ps: See that necklace I am wearing?  That is a handmade beauty by Stefani.  See more necklaces she created HERE.  Let's all force Stefani to start a necklace making workshop!  I would go to that in a heartbeat!!

Look at that mess we made!

I have to thank Angie for inviting me to Midsummer Nights.  Thanks, Angie!  Angie also mentioned the wonderful evening HERE.  Blogging Buddies!

Beach Daze

Hello friends!

I really wish life was in technicolor, don't you?!   I'm feeling so inspired by these classic beach photos, and cannot wait to frolic in the ocean very soon!  I absolutely  L O V E  vintage bathing suits, and find them the most flattering, not to mention very chic.  They look amazing underneath circle skirts, or paired with jeans.  I've been thinking about the perfect beach cover ups lately, like a cozy fair isle sweater (such as the one on Marilyn pictured below), or a light denim button down.  I have a few bathing suits from the 1950s/60s that I purchased on ebay.  It was an obsession for a while.  A few of them even have cone bra!  Cheeky!!

That photo above makes me really happy.  I mean, how perfect are those women?  That pineapple!

Beautiful Marilyn.  I bet that sweater was hand knitted. She looks so warm and peaceful in this image.  Taken in 1962 by George Barris.  His shots of her have such a California feel to them.  Check out this one, and this one!

OH!!  THIS ONE!!!
Obsessed.

This photo has some interesting commentary behind it.  I suggest you take a gander

I'd like to create a self portrait just like this!  ^

...or this one!  ^  What?

Lace and perfect eyebrows!

Bettie had some glorious gams!

I was named after this bathing beauty.  Ava Gardner rocked it!  Wow, just wow.

Happy, breezy beach days!

Summer Stripes

This past Halloween, I decided to dress up like a stereotypical Frenchman.  I already had a beret, a scarf, my snazzy blazer....

What I really needed was a striped tee-shirt, but I was low on cash and extra low on time, so I decided to take an old white tee and have my lovely boyfriend draw some beautiful stripes with a black sharpie.

I wore my costume proudly, complete with painted on mustache.

(Notice "The Red Balloon" to the left of my chair.)  LOVE

Recently, I was cruising my favorite fashion blog, www.refinery29.com, and came across this:

I showed it to Jeaux instantly and for a moment we felt pretty ahead of the curb (although, I'm sure we aren't the only ones who have made DIY stripe tee-shirts).  Anyway, theirs is pretty profesh looking. It gave me inspiration to start wearing mine out and about.

What do you think?
